Thank you all for your comments and questions. I am glad you found the presentation to be informative. Please note that there is no upper age limit for the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Program, older adults are also welcome to apply. Currently, there is no specialized program for older students, thus the same Calls for Applications apply to all applicants. You can find more details on the Program’s website: https://diasporascholarship.hu/en/

Just a small correction to be precise: currently, about a quarter of the summer school awardees are over 40. 🙂

Steven, thank you for your kind words. There is no upper age limit for the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Program, older adults are also welcome to apply. The summer school opportunity might be more suitable, however, long-term studies are also possible. Currently, about one-third of our summer school scholarship holders are over 40. I believe our oldest scholarship holder was 78 years old when completing his studies with the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Program.

Thank you for your presentation. It is a great offer for people wanting to learn in Hungary. If I were younger…. it might have been something to persue.

                    Steven and Marianna,

I am happy to talk to you both offline about what it was like as an older student participating in the Summer Program at the Balassi Institute.

Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have questions!

I loved this information. Lila was a great presenter, very informative!! I would also like to know about the possibility of older students in this program. How do I find out? Perhaps through the link you shared?
                      Gratefully,
                      Marianna

I would be interested in the answer of Steven’s question on study for older people.

Steven-I just completed a month long class in Budapest through the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship program. We took 3 hours of Hungarian classes every morning at the Balassi Institute, and engaged in cultural programs in the afternoon. I am 54 years old. While most of the participants were in their 20s or early 30s, there were about 15 or so of us who were 40 plus.

I definitely recommend looking into it!

We’ve had a few Reconnect Hungary Birthright Program alumni take advantage of the Diaspora Scholarship. A great move by Hungary.

Lilla, I found your presentation very informative and interesting. I believe that in 1989 I attended the Debrecen Summer School(Debreceni Nyári Egyetem). I really enjoyed the Summer School learning Hungarian language and taking Hungarian Language based courses. However, I am now retired, in my mid 60’s, does your program have courses for my age group? I have considered Language courses in Hungary, in Debrecen we had Musical history in Hungary, even language development since the founding of Hungary. All of which was fascinating and interesting.
