Klaudia, Thanks for the appreciation! Suzi is so fabulous! Yes, stay in touch. I’m posting my email.
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 6:33 pm #3774Kati, I’m impressed that you read all the inscriptions! That takes takes some energy. Household arts get overlooked and that’s why we need to bring them out into the open.

JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 6:05 pm #3772Thanks, Michelle! The 1980’s were a great time to collect these! You must have some interesting ones. What a lovely memory you have a cooking with your grandmother.
Maybe you saw the exhibition in Kazár a few years ago. There was also one at the Applied Arts Museum in Kecskemetb.
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:54 pm #3771Glad you enjoyed seeing the presentation, Linda! I’m sure there are beginning to be more exhibitions now that these are appreciated as folk art.
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:49 pm #3770Thank you , Linda! Now you’ll start seeing wall cloths everywhere. Yes, the exhibitions are very exciting. I’m sure there are more out there to be found.
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:44 pm #3769Thank you Raymond. Isn’t it amazing to discover these! Not surprising that these are not found in many households, especially urban ones.

JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:39 pm #3768I’m glad you enjoyed the presentation, Bruce. You have a lovely family treasure, along with some good history.
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:33 pm #3767Thank you,Marianna. Lucky you to have some of these from your family! I’m sure that the husband in that wall cloth was properly dressed with a suit and tie and that he had a big bouquet. That’s a nice custom!
Love to see a photo of these!
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:26 pm #3766Thanks for your kind words, Sally! There are so many things going on with these simple embroideries. Hope you’ll find a few hidden away.
JoyceSeptember 1, 2025 at 5:18 pm #3765I’m glad you enjoyed my talk Maria! Good luck with finding some wall cloths and other treasures in your family belongings. Send me a photo of what you find.
JoyceAugust 30, 2025 at 1:52 am #3716Thank you Joyce for sharing your knowledge about wall cloths. It was great to learn about the tradition and the designs and see the examples.
I am planning to head up to search the linens and things in my Moms cedar chest and boxes. Im pretty sure there are a few up there. Possibly from both sets of my Great Grandmothers.August 29, 2025 at 12:06 am #3615Thanks so much for this very informative presentation, Joyce. I have to admit I’ve seen the wall cloths (and may have some tucked away someplace), but never focused on the details & the significance which you so eloquently pointed out. The images & the words give so much insight into the daily life & values of the culture at a certain point in time.
August 28, 2025 at 3:44 pm #3554This was so fascinating! I did not realize that I have wall cloths from my grandmother and grandfather in my possession. I have one that depicts a husband coming home with a bouquet of flowers to his wife. I had a friend who was from Hungary that told me that it was the custom that on payday, the husband buy flowers for his wife!
Well down Joyce! I enjoyed it immensely!
