Anyone interested in taking a look back at village life — I highly recommend PROPER PEASANTS: TRADITIONAL LIFE IN A HUNGARIAN VILLAGE. It was published in 1969 and was a `4-year study of one village in Central Hungary. https://archive.org/details/properpeasantstr0000fele . It was recommended to me by sociologist Dr. Bela Bodo when I first began researching The Angel Makers.
